Cruelty Free

In 2019, 3.3 million animals were used in animal experiments. This sadly means for every 1 minute that passed during the year 7 animals died.

The details of these tests are hidden from the public using Section 24 of the animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. This act makes it an offence (punishable by up to two years imprisonment) to disclose certain details about the animals used for ‘scientific purposes’.

In 2015, the UK Government implemented a policy ban on the testing of household products on animals. The ban only served the finished product testing, and did not include the supply chains of the product. A clear flaw in the policy.

The very latest government statistics published in July 2020, stated that in 2019, there were still 67 experimental procedures which involved the testing of household product ingredients. Of the 67 animals, 26 rats were used in procedures that were assessed as mild, 37 rats were used in procedures that were moderate, and 4 mice and 4 rats were used in procedures that were assessed as severe.
